Innovation Investment Awardees - Round Two

    

Continuing its commitment to building an integrated and sustainable economic and workforce development system, Wall Street West has allocated more than $500,000 in WIRED funding to develop programming that will boost the skill sets of workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

  

Innovation Investments support workforce development organizations in relationship building, education, training, and economic development in the financial services industry. Like the first round of Innovation Investment recipients, these organizations created programs that demonstrate support for Wall Street West's goals of building a stronger financial services sector in Northeastern Pennsylvania through a qualified workforce .

The second round of Innovation Investments awards were issued on March 17, 2008 at Lehigh Carbon Community College. The 9 awardees were:

People Front and Center- Financial Services Competency Models

Program Details- Develop competency models for managerial, non-managerial, and information technology within the FSI. Each model will include a list of competencies with definitions and behavioral indicators.

University of Scranton- Foreign Currency Trading Course and Trading Laboratory

Program Details- Collaboration to design, create and deliver educational services in traditional and laboratory formats. The content will focus on analyzing, characterizing and trading on the F/X market.

Lehigh Carbon Community College- Innovation Institute Professional Development and Curriculum Planning Project

Program Details- Will prepare community college faculty and high school teachers to effectively teach within an innovative learning environment that develops critical soft skills identified in the Gap Analysis.

King's College- Economics Certificate Program

Program Details- Developed in collaboration with Prudential Financial, the certificate program will prepare 12-15 non-traditional students to enter the FSI.

King's College- Mathematics Summer Institute

Program Details- In partnership with an investment advisor, the Institute will prepare mathematics teachers to broaden their students' knowledge of the FSI to include the stock market, bond market, mutual funds, unit investment trusts, real estate investment trusts, portfolio diversification, asset allocation and variable and fixed annuities.

Penn State Berks- NEPA Partnership for Workforce Development in Information Assurance

Program Details- Summer camps for high school students and professional development for high school teachers focusing on Information Assurance. A virtual computing laboratory will be utilized.

Compass Point and Originate Ventures- Open Court

Program Details- Entrepreneurial development provided to support preparation and presentation of an executive business summary and receive written and verbal feedback on how to plan, grow and finance their business emphasizing FS and IT companies.

Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges- WSW Community College Collaborative: Facilitating the Education and Workforce Development of the Financial Services Industry

Program Details- Lehigh, Carbon, Luzerne, Northampton and Reading Area Community Colleges will form the FS Industry Advisory Committee to determine associate degree occupations in FS; review degrees for currency; determine need for and develop industry specific certificate programs; conduct regional forums about the value of community college graduates; promote career development and enhance the pipeline through career pathways.

Northeast Pennsylvania Manufacturers and Employers Council- Your Employability Skills Certificate Program (YES)

Program Details- This program is a 120-hour, year-round elective course targeted at high school students to enable them to develop and/or enhance the basic job skills that employers in all phases of business and industry require.
