Innovation Investments represent one of the central strategies of Wall Street West to bolster educational and workforce readiness for the economic development in the financial services sector.
In the first round held on October 23, 2007 at the Inn at Pocono Manor, six (6) Innovation Investment awards were issued.
KIZ Intern Program- Keystone Innovation Zone Collaborative
Program Details- Internships focusing on financial services and business continuity/information technology in 5 Keystone Innovation Zones. KIZs link higher education, entrepreneurs and the regional incubators to promote innovation, technology transfer and commercialization.
The Financial Literacy Institute for Junior and High School Teachers and Students- University of Scranton & Misericordia University
Program Details- A collaboration amoung the 3 regional Centers for Economic Education to provide consistent programming and incorporate the use of Internet 2 to provide educational opportunities for 8-12th grade teachers and students.
Bridging the Gap- Right Reasons Technologies and East Stroudsburg University
Program Details- Modular financial services career awareness program delivered online. Replicable for other WIB areas and industry clusters.
Wall Street West Academy- Lehigh Carbon Community College
Program Details- Provides a comprehensive career and academic program for high school students that other community colleges can implement.
Originate Ventures Internship- Originate Ventures
Program Details- Internships in start-up fund including mentorship, students from multiple colleges and a documented process for replication in other businesses.
Workforce Development Program for Financial Services- LVWIB and Lehigh University
Program Details- Retraining of engineers and others in Graduate Studies in Quantitative Financial Analysis for Engineers, and providing professional development for community college faculty. Part A is intended to retain high skill, high wage professionals by transitioning them from one industry to another. Part B will enhance and update the community college faculty about the latest trends in financial services and business continuity.
